Christmas Party 2006

Date Posted: 20 Dec 2006
2006 was a great year for promoting our factory farmed friends to the front of the headlines. Chickens lead the way, followed closely behind by the little (bloomin huge) oinkers. What we are hoping for in 2007 is for Animal Liberation to outstrip 2006 in a big way. We have an extremely successful and motivated bunch of volunteers willing to donate their time and effort into making the world (at least Sydney) a happier place for animals.

Got off to a flying start, Jodi and Angie set up the outdoor BBQ in the middle of Wynyard Park (permission granted of course!) along with an Animal Liberation stall. A plethora of volunteers turned up one by one which was amazing to see.

The Dean of Newcastle (NSW) speaks out for animals

At the annual Thanksgiving for Creation service held in Christ Church Cathedral, Newcastle, on Sunday, 8th October, 2006, the Address was given by the Dean of Newcastle, The Very Rev'd Graeme R. Lawrence OAM. The position of leadership the Dean holds in the Anglican Church in Australia makes his remarks all the more valuable to those of us fighting the animals' cause.

Australia mourns Peter Brock

Date Posted: 16 Sep 2006
Australia is mourning the loss of Peter Brock, the champion racing driver. Not well-known was his vegetarianism/veganism, due to his respect of the lives of other beings as well as his desire for the good health of his body. He preferred to live the "quiet example" vegetarian lifestyle, and it certainly was quite an example.

Live Exports

Date Posted: 6 Jun 2006
Elders is not only involved in the Live Export market, but is clearly proud enough of its involvement to broadcast it to the world through its website. It was for this reason that Animal Liberation rallied outside Elders Real Estate agency at Neutral Bay on Saturday the 25th March, our aim was to highlight to the Australian public the companies who are profiting from this abhorrent trade. Other animal organisations held their own protests on the same day in a national day of action against Live Exports.

Australia Post and their Ludicrous New Stamp Collection

Date Posted: 25 Oct 2005
Australia Post has just released a selection of collectable stamps entitled "Down on the Farm". There's no two ways about it -- the pictures are absolutely adorable. But is it covered by 'Truth in Advertising' legislation? However adorable, the images are exactly how the agricultural sector want the population to view what goes on: animals having fun!

The Treatment of Dogs and Cats in Korea

hanging dogShould the brutal treatment and death of a dog or cat concern us more than if the same were done to a cow, or a sheep, or a chicken. It shouldn't, but animals that the "Western world" looks upon as companion animals are treated very differently in Korea.

Many Koreans still believe that if one eats dog meat from dogs that have been tortured to death, it will make them more sexually active. The marketing of dog meat as a health food was initiated and perpetuated by the dog meat dealers to keep their billion dollar businesses going. The rationale behind savagely beating a dog to death lies in the primitiveness that when a dog is beaten they produce high levels of adrenaline hence the selling of their meat as a kind of "natural" viagra for impotence and vitality!

This adrenaline rush is achieved by hanging dogs from ropes on trees and leaving them to slowly strangle to death, and then while still alive, their fur is blowtorched off.

Cats do not hold any position of affection in Korean society. They are not eaten as dogs are but many attempts have been made to eradicate them, not by humane methods, but rather by beating the animals to death in sacks or, in some cases, boiling them alive in large pressure cookers to supply the insatiable demand for another "herbal" remedy – although clearly animals do not fall into this category.

The Korean government does not enforce its animal welfare laws so people make an assumption that farming dogs, slaughtering them and selling their meat is legal. It is not. The sale and cooking of dogs is illegal under Korea's food and sanitation laws.

INTERNATIONAL PROTEST WORKED BACK IN 1988 AT THE SEOUL GAMES.
IT CAN WORK AGAIN WITH YOUR HELP.

WARNING: The following pictures are very distressing!

About to die ... the trusting dog makes no fuss as a rope noose is put around her neck. Huge dogs, packed into a cage in a similar fashion to a battery hen.
The pet is released. The rope is pulled tight. Fighting for life, she tries to bite the rope to stop the choking. Next in line ... a doomed cat is tied beside a giant cauldron of boiling water.
Finally weakened she gives up, relaxes and strangles to death. Cages of despair ... cats and kittens waiting to be boiled alive.
Dogs crowded into a cage – their fate certain.  Dead ... the pathetic body of the latest victim is dumped on the floor.

Please write and send e-mails to the following individuals and demand that they stop defining Dogs as "livestock". Also to enforce existing laws that prohibit cruelty to and consumption of dogs.
