Christmas Party 2006

Date Posted: 20 Dec 2006
2006 was a great year for promoting our factory farmed friends to the front of the headlines. Chickens lead the way, followed closely behind by the little (bloomin huge) oinkers. What we are hoping for in 2007 is for Animal Liberation to outstrip 2006 in a big way. We have an extremely successful and motivated bunch of volunteers willing to donate their time and effort into making the world (at least Sydney) a happier place for animals.

Lawrence OAM. The position of leadership the Dean holds in the Anglican Church in Australia makes his remarks all the more valuable to those of us fighting the animals' cause.

Australia mourns Peter Brock

Date Posted: 16 Sep 2006
Australia is mourning the loss of Peter Brock, the champion racing driver. Not well-known was his vegetarianism/veganism, due to his respect of the lives of other beings as well as his desire for the good health of his body. He preferred to live the "quiet example" vegetarian lifestyle, and it certainly was quite an example.

Live Exports

Date Posted: 6 Jun 2006
Elders is not only involved in the Live Export market, but is clearly proud enough of its involvement to broadcast it to the world through its website. It was for this reason that Animal Liberation rallied outside Elders Real Estate agency at Neutral Bay on Saturday the 25th March, our aim was to highlight to the Australian public the companies who are profiting from this abhorrent trade. Other animal organisations held their own protests on the same day in a national day of action against Live Exports.

Australia Post and their Ludicrous New Stamp Collection

Date Posted: 25 Oct 2005
Australia Post has just released a selection of collectable stamps entitled "Down on the Farm". There's no two ways about it -- the pictures are absolutely adorable. But is it covered by 'Truth in Advertising' legislation? However adorable, the images are exactly how the agricultural sector want the population to view what goes on: animals having fun!

Dissection

An education in death and destruction

Do you think students should be taught caring
and responsible attitudes to animals?Dissected Rat (yuk) If so, what sort of attitudes do you think school students learn from cutting up animals for biology exercises? One Australian student who believes it is wrong to exploit animals expresses it this way:

"Biology is the science of life, yet we are told that to study life we must mutilate dead animals who have been bred, born and killed in wire cages, and whose bodies we then throw into the garbage".

Dissection contradicts the purpose of biology

It indoctrinates students that animals are here for us to use and abuse. Studies show that students learn just as much from videos and computer simulations, without destroying life. All students have the right to refuse to do dissections.

Demand to learn biology, the science of life, without causing death.

There ARE alternatives!

Dissection is not a legal or educational requirement in Australian Schools. There are many alternatives to the use of animals in teaching. These are just some of the wide range now available: VIDEOS: These allow a flexible approach to teaching and encourage student interaction, illustrating the external organs and structure, the circulatory system, the respiratory system, the digestive system and the urogenital system. A video, unlike a dead animal, can be used again and again. COMPUTER SIMULATIONS: To demonstrate the activity of nerves or muscles, or the effects of various drugs. Some programs allow university students to carry out ÒexperimentsÓ eg., to test the effects of various drugs on the cardiovascular system. Mouse What can YOU do? As a student, explain to your teacher why you object to animals being killed or harmed for your education and that you would like to have available one of the many alternatives.

As a concerned citizen write to:
The Minister For Agriculture,
The Hon. Richard Amery,
Parliament House, Sydney NSW 2000.

Ask why he continues to allow animals to be killed for teaching purposes when there as so many alternatives, and all the available evidence shows that students learn just as much without using animals.

See our interview with Andrew Knight.
Andrew is a veterinary science student who has brought enormous changes to the system, saving the lives of many animals.
