Wrap up of Anti-Vivisection Demo
Dear All,
Firstly, thank you so much to everyone that showed up to Brighton yesterday in the early spring heat! It was amazing to see how many people we can get together to be active for the animals. When we were shouting 'Ban Animal Testing' there was such enthusiasm in all voices that I think the conference goers would have been hard pressed to block us out!!!
To those of you who have worked hard each Tuesday night at the AL office for the last 6 weeks, thanks for your commitment, I hope to see you soon :)
Special thanks to Ramesh for organising the Grim Reaper and rabbit costumes which were very effective.
For the people who weren't there, it was an excellent day with over 100 people turning out in black clothes to mourn the loss of millions of animals due to animal research and testing. We gave out hundreds of leaflets and educated the Brighton restaurant goers as to what 'vivisection' is. It's hard to know how many people we actually reached yesterday, and this is the great thing about being active, if the demo made only one person change so they will no longer purchase any goods that have been tested on animals, then the demo was a success.
We were 'loud and proud' and it was great to see the looks of concern amongst vivisectors faces when we were looking them directly in the eyes outside the Novotel as they were breaking for lunch. The drums was beating and the horns and bell were making as much noise as they could. We also educated a wedding party who were there for the day :)
Unfortunately the major TV media did not turn out despite numerous calls to their news desks. However, there was one photographer from the St George Bulletin who turned up, and of course out roving reporter Danielle Archer from 2RRR FM who covered the day. A few people have informed me that they heard the interview on ABC about the demo on the 11 or 12 o'clock news yesterday which is great. Sally also carried out interviews with the SBS and 2SM radio during the week.
Keep a look out for the experimented animals that will be appearing in spots around the city of Sydney over the next few days to highlight the plight of animals in research. The fight will continue for the animals, as long as we have passionate people like all of you living on this planet.
PS: Keep your ears open for another vivisectors conference (not ANZCCART, an even more evil one) which we know is coming up. If you see or hear anything about this, please let me know by emailing oink@animal-lib.org.au.
