30 activists chained to battery hen cages in protest over cruel 'factory farming' - Arrests Likely
PRESS ALERT
HENS HAVE BEEN RESCUED BY THE ANIMAL RESCUE TEAM FROM THE APPALLING MISERY OF BATTERY CAGES AT THE PACE 'HENHOLME' BATTERY FARM, GEORGE BOOTH DRIVE, BUCHANAN, NEAR NEWCASTLE. 30 ACTIVISTS REMAIN WITH THE 100s OF THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS LOCKED AWAY IN SHEDS.
Mark Pearson, Executive Director Animal Liberation NSW, speaking from inside the battery hen shed:
"We are here at one of the largest battery cage hen egg 'factories' in Australia. Hens have less than an A4 page on which to spend their entire short lives. Standing on thin sloping wires all that time leads to bone fractures and breakage causing agonising pain for most of their short miserable lives.
"The Animal protection laws are now under amendment in NSW. We call on the government to abolish this barbaric and inherently cruel practice. How can a government of this day be too mean to ever let an animal walk around or perch? Farm animals need to exercise and feel the warmth of the sun too".
