THE DEATH OF 6 MILLION KANGAROOS

Kangaroo The justification for killing up to 6 million kangaroos a year is that they compete with sheep and cattle for food. Therefore, while we slaughter millions of non-indigenous wild animals (feral animals) to save native wildlife, we slaughter 6 million native animals to save non-indigenous owned animals, who could easily be phased out, if we stopped breeding them. The equation doesn't make sense.

The phase-out of sheep and cattle, unlike the removal of feral animals, would involve no suffering for the animals concerned and no starvation for the species which predates them - that¼s to say - humans. In fact our health would benefit. Nearly all breeding of sheep and cattle is by artificial insemination. Therefore reduction of herds would be a matter of deciding to do so. Ultimately, we will HAVE to decide to do so.
